CIVIL CEREMONY
Civil ceremonies must take place in the Town Halls or a property purchased by the local governement only. Ceremony is performed in Italian by the Mayor or a civil registrar and requires an offical interpreter and two witnesses (one for each of you). The reading of the civil vows is about 15 to 20 minutes.
This kind of ceremony has legal value in Italy and throughout the world.

There is no residency requirement to marry in Italy. This allows you to tie the knot in any location without bureaucratic delays. In some cases you can arrive and marry within one day.

CATHOLIC CEREMONY
The only religious ceremony that can include both religious and civil requirements is the Catholic marriage service.
All the other marriage ceremonies must, therefore, have a civil service performed beforehand in order for the marriage to be legally recognized.
In the case of one of the parties being divorced, the Catholic Church will not allow you to remarry in church unless you have an annulment recognized by the Catholic Authorities.

Catholic ceremonies can only be performed in a Church.

PROTESTANT CEREMONY
In Sardinia the only Protestant Church is located in Cagliari, however the Minister is flexible and can marry you on private grounds or outdoors when requested.
It is required that the civil ceremony takes place prior to the religious ceremony. You can have this civil service done in your home country prior to your departure or arrange to have it done in Sardinia a few days in advance.

This service is available only in the South of Sardinia.

JEWISH & OTHER RELIGIOUS CEREMONIES
We can arrange Jewish and other  religious ceremonies on request.
WeddingSardinia works with a British Reform rabbis in the UK, who can come to celebrate your Jewish wedding in Sardinia.
For religious ceremonies of other denomintions, you may bring your own celebrant from your home country,in which case for the marriage to be valid a civil ceremony is required prior to the religious ceremony. This can take place either in Italy or in your country of residence.

 SYMBOLIC BLESSING
Symbolic ceremony has recently become popular especially for those couples who prefer not to worry about completing legal documents for their destination wedding.
This type of ceremony is not legally binding, but the ceremony can follow the same procedures as a normal wedding.
This means you can get legally married in your home country and then enjoy the freedom to personalize your dream destination wedding; you can include personal vows, favourite songs, poetry, or decide to perform the ceremony in the most spectacular settings such as a beautiful sardinian beach and a romantic boat .....the choices are only limited by your imagination!

RENEWAL OF VOWS
The Vow Renewal is a beautiful way for already married couple to re-affirm their love for one another. With no legal restrictions, the ceremony can take place virtually anywhere in Sardinia.

GAY & LESBIAN WEDDINGS
Unfortunately, the Italian government does not yet permit legally binding same-sex marriage. However, you can count on us to honour your love and devotion with a symbolic ceremony that reflects your own personal style.
